Algae-dyed polar bears puzzle Japan zoo visitors
TOKYO (AP) — Green-colored polar bears are drawing questions from puzzled visitors at a Japanese zoo.
Three normally white polar bears at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in central Japan changed their color in July after swimming in a pond with an overgrowth of algae.
The sight of green polar bears has prompted many questions from visitors concerned about whether the animals are sick or carrying mold, zoo official Masami Kurobe said Sunday.
"Visitors seem to be shocked by the color, and we are asked every day why they are so green," he said.
High temperatures in July and August and less-frequent water changes because of the zoo's conservation efforts caused an algae growth in the bear pond and safety moat, Kurobe said.
Algae that enters hollow spaces in the bears' fur is hard to rinse off, he said.
The bears are expected to return to their natural color when the algae growth subsides in November, Kurobe said.

Hay you lot.
Just wanted to ask users not to submit posts asking "What animal is this?!"
Especially, for example, if it's an everyday spider or other bug you just found in your room. I get tons of those.
A little google-fu can usually answer your question, and for insects you can go to ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) whats_that_bug.
I only ask because this place is for reading interesting information, not playing detective for lazies. |

Okayyyyyy so I was watching The Dish on the Style network, and they were doing their "Trend Alert" segment. The third trend was "dating Justin Long."
The segment ends with the host (America Fererra) going, "We all know who he really has the hots for..." and the screen shows a cap of a Mac vs. PC ad.

Never thought I'd have something to post here, but it figures it came from PetSmart.
Last week, I bought crickets, and as I was tossing them in my lizard's cage, I noticed one had another, dead cricket stuck to him. I tried to shake them loose, but no go. On closer inspection, it turns out there was only one cricket, with a giant growth coming out of his leg.
Looked something like this:

Anyone ever seen anything like it? Or know a cheap easy way to preserve this guy? He died a couple days ago and kinda stinks, but it seems a shame to just throw him out when he looks so cool.
[Edit] Shoot, I totally forgot to mention: when he was alive, he couldn't move any part of the growth, just drag it behind him, but when I poked it very lightly, he would react to that.
[Edit again!] Leading theories on this are: molt gone bad that started affecting the cricket itself, and inexplicable birth defect. |

Does anyone have a scan or episode screenshot in which they show the back and side views of the Ashford Academy Middle School Department girls' uniform? I'm going to make the said uniform for an upcoming event in October and I haven't had any luck with finding what the uniform officially looks like from the back or side view so far. It's also really tough to make out how many pleats it has since Nunnally is sitting every time she appeared in season 1 in the uniform. |

My friend asked me if I was going to take those grad photos (the ones that you do with your friends lol) and I automatically say no LOL. But she stills asks if I'll wear a dress and I'm like,"Does it look like I'll wear a dress? Let alone, own one?" I don't want to take grad photos, I don't want to go to prom or anyother "special" event. I know it's my last year, but I really don't give a shit OTL. Seriously! Every year girls make a fuss on what dress to wear, what limo to order and what boy to take, etcetc. Even if I did go to the prom, I'd just sit on the side and wish I were home doing something else. Sure, my friends are going, but they got like...their friends to hang with so yeah.
Right now I'm taking textiles (god knows why since I'm a horrible sewer) and I plan on making Luluko's dress. I hope I'm able to...but I'm like, a noob and all that doesn't even remember how to thread a sewing machine;; But I really want to cosplay pict drama Luluko >_< (uniform!Suzaku, anyone??)
Wow, am I off topic? LOL anyways, even if I ever did those professional grad photos, I'd rather be in Suzaku KoR cosplay with a Eupy(LOL) and if I went to the prom, I'd wear Luluko's dress T_T
